At Help Mental Health, we’re proud to present the outstanding results of our “CHAT YOUR TRUTH” youth mental health workshops, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Our innovative mental health program for young people in London has created safe spaces for open dialogue, combining professional therapy techniques from Inside Out Wellbeing with therapeutic movement from Steppaz Dance Academy.
Each “CHAT YOUR TRUTH” workshop was carefully designed to help young people explore mental health in ways that felt authentic and empowering. Facilitated by mental health professionals from Inside Out Wellbeing, sessions began with grounding exercises and circle discussions where participants could share their experiences without judgment. Many young people, especially those from BAME backgrounds told us these were the first spaces where they felt truly heard when discussing anxiety, depression, or family pressures.
A unique highlight was our collaboration with Steppaz Dance Academy, which transformed movement into a therapeutic tool. Participants channeled emotions through guided dance sequences, turning unspoken stress into physical release. One teen described it as “having an outlet for what I couldn’t say out loud.” Creative workshops, like spoken word and and story telling within groups, gave quieter voices alternative ways to process feelings, we watched shy attendees blossom as they painted their struggles or wrote poetry about resilience.
The magic happened in the blend of approaches: clinical strategies from Inside Out (like CBT-based coping games) merged with community-driven activities (like peer-led “offload sessions” within groups). By the final workshops, teens who’d arrived withdrawn were teaching identification techniques to newcomers proving that healing reverberates when youth support each other.
