Our Commitment

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Mental health support should be for everyone. We are committed to building a culture of belonging where every young person feels seen, heard and valued — no matter who they are or where they come from.

Our Position

Help Mental Health exists to support the emotional wellbeing of young people across the United Kingdom. We recognise that mental health challenges do not affect all communities equally — systemic inequality, cultural stigma and structural barriers mean that some young people face significantly greater obstacles when seeking help.

This policy sets out our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across every aspect of our work, from the resources we create to the teams we build and the partnerships we form.

We are guided by the Equality Act 2010 and go beyond legal compliance to embed inclusive practice at every level of our organisation.

Our Core Principles

Six commitments that guide how we design, deliver and evolve our services.

Inclusive by Design

Every resource, programme and interaction is designed to be accessible and welcoming to all young people — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, socioeconomic background or neurodiversity.

Representation Matters

We actively ensure our imagery, language and storytelling reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. Young people deserve to see themselves in the support we offer.

Equity Over Equality

We recognise that different communities face different barriers to mental health support. We commit to removing those barriers through tailored outreach, culturally sensitive resources and fair access.

Continuous Learning

We regularly review our practices, seek feedback from the communities we serve, and invest in ongoing training for our team on anti-racism, accessibility and intersectional awareness.

Safe Spaces

We maintain zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment or exclusion. Our digital platforms and physical programmes are governed by clear safeguarding and anti-bullying policies.

Lived Experience

We centre the voices of young people with lived experience in shaping our services, ensuring our work is grounded in real needs rather than assumptions.

Protected Characteristics

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, we do not discriminate on the basis of:
  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage & civil partnership
  • Pregnancy & maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief

  • Accountability & Reporting

Our leadership team is accountable for the implementation and monitoring of this policy. We conduct an annual EDI review covering our content, recruitment, partnerships and community feedback.

If you experience or witness discrimination of any kind while engaging with Help Mental Health, we encourage you to report it. You can contact us confidentially at our contact page or email us directly.
